New Room Theatre was founded in 2011 by Samantha Wright and Mark Jeary as a New Writing Company. Our first show - Are You Happy Now - received excellent reviews after a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the same year.
Now based in Glasgow, New Room Theatre specialises in the verbatim genre - giving voice to people whose stories are rarely heard - while delivering an engaging, entertaining experience for audiences.
Blackout is an honest, brutal and often hilarious insight into alcoholism and recovery, scripted entirely from interviews with recovering alcoholics, including the writer. After critically acclaimed Edinburgh, Glasgow and London runs, we toured Scotland in Spring 2016.
This year we will be taking part in the Made In Scotland showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. More details will come later. If you are an interested venue looking to be part of our planned 2019 UK/ international tour, please go to the contact page.
X and Y explored what it's like to be LGBT and living in the Commonwealth. This was written from interviews with Glaswegian trans woman Natalie, Jamaican lesbian Latoya, and Hilath - a gay man from the Maldives. As a result of the positive feedback and reviews for X and Y, Miss Natalie is currently in development as a one woman show, which delves much deeper into the fascinating and inspiring life of Natalie Scott.
