Four friends leave school with uncertain futures. One of them, A* student and non-binary auteur Damien Blake, wants to create something important. Something that will define the experience of a generation. Film is their medium; immediate and open to manipulation. Set against a background of increasing societal pressures, rising university fees and what can be seen as a youth mental health crisis, Damian’s obsession with exploring what reality actually is starts to put a strain on their relationships.
With a cast of characters that can be played by any gender, this new work by award-winning playwright J. B. Pichelski explores coming of age in a demanding and indifferent world with sensitivity and nuance.
"For all its moments of topical bite - gender fluidity, millennial expectations - J. B. Pichelski's 'Scenic Reality' is a tightly scripted drama about being accepted by your peers and finding your way in the world"
Paul O'Leary: Producer (Other People's Money, Southwark Playhouse)
"A brave, and revealing work about millennial relationships, art and identity from this promising new playwright."
Forbes Masson, Actor and RSC Associate Artist
